Jean Marie Casbarian

Jean Marie Casbarian (b. Aberdeen, Maryland, lives and works in New York, New York) holds an MFA from Milton Avery School of Art at Bard College, New York and a BFA from University of Colorado at Denver. Her artistic practice lies in her interests around the (re)construction of memory and time, the stories that live within displaced cultural identities and family histories and the resultant loss and longing that often occurs within these personal and political mythologies. Working across photography, video, sound text, and performance, Casbarian fuses fact with fiction as she continually attempts to flip her own paradigm with the hope of creating a new personal narrative. She has taught in graduate and undergraduate programs across the United States and abroad including The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Hampshire College, Transart Institute, the International Center of Photography, and ICP-Bard.
